about ignatia

the basics

"Ignatia stood with her feet spread wide, wearing worn gray conjurer’s robes. Her pointed, wide-brimmed hat kept slipping down over her eyes, and she shoved it up again to reveal green eyes and a plain, honest face, seemingly tanned from hours in the sun. Her fiery hair was plaited into two neat braids. She stuck a hand out, and when you shook it, her grip was strong."

Pronouns: She/HerRace: Hyur (Highlander)Nameday: 14th Sun of the 5th Astral MoonGuardian: Nophica, the MatronHeight: 5’7”Current Age: mid-20sOrientation: BiBirthplace: CoerthasPhysical Attributes: Ignatia has medium-length red-brown hair with bangs, which she usually keeps in two braids. Her eyes are green, and she has a tan skin tone with freckles on her face. There is a small mole underneath her left eye. She likes to dress simply and practically, usually opting for mages’ robes and her favorite, well-loved hat. She loves the color green and wears a lot of it. She's not much for jewelry, but she regularly wears small brass hoop earrings and two necklaces made of cord: one has a shard of blue crystal, and the other has a gray pebble taken from the bed of a Coerthan stream.Inventory: Ignatia is rarely seen without her conjury staff on her back, which has the appearance of a branch hewn from a tree with a large crystal affixed to the top. Ever prepared, she usually carries a pack with a variety of potions, herbs, and snacks, as well as a small dagger hidden in a boot or pant leg.Occupations (non-MSQ): Works at the Conjurer’s Guild, where she teaches some of the younger conjury students and gives tours of the Guild to visiting school children; Chirurgeon in Gridania (used to work as a field medic in Coerthas and the Shroud); occasionally does some adventuring or picks up jobs for the Botany, Mining, and Culinarian Guilds. Currently planning on opening up her own orphanage or daycare one day!Canon DoW/DoM Classes: Conjurer (main), ArcherCanon DoL/DoH Classes: Botanist, Miner, Culinarian, AlchemistAbilities: healing (conjury and traditional medicine), working with children (she partially raised her younger siblings growing up), agriculture/horticulture/animal husbandry (from her upbringing on a farm), hunting, foraging, embroideryPersonality: Ignatia is generally very pleasant and friendly! She’s sometimes a bit shy when just getting to know someone, but becomes much more extroverted once she feels comfortable. She tries her hardest to be kind and optimistic in most situations, and is able to maintain a very level head even under a lot of pressure. She loves very hard and spares no effort in caring for and looking after her loved ones. She is very committed to her personal values and driven by a strong sense of duty to do right by the world and people around her.
However, she can be stubborn, self-sacrificing, and often becomes so driven by her need to fix everything by herself she won’t ask for help, pushes people away or even makes things worse. Despite her initial impression of being easygoing and an open book, her relationships with others often suffer because of her inability to open up about her more personal feelings and things she struggles with, or accept affection from others. In her desire to avoid burdening others, she ends up accidentally driving them away. Basically she’s got that Eldest Sister Syndrome lol
history

"Maybe her abilities were Gods-given, maybe it was cosmic chance, maybe it was some other force at work. But whatever the reason, her power came with a duty. Ignatia was the second-eldest, the caretaker, the voice of reason, the healer. These roles she would fulfill until the day she died."
- Ignatia's Beginnings
ChildhoodIgnatia is from Coerthas, and grew up near the hamlet of Owl’s Nest. She comes from a very large family with seven children, of which she is the second oldest. The Vodyanoys were farmers and shepherds by trade, and they lived on a small parcel of land where they kept their flock. The life she knew growing up was simple, because the Vodyanoys were relatively poor and lived in such a remote location. Their farm was situated a couple of malms outside Owl’s Nest. Growing up, Ignatia rarely went far from home, at most traveling to a neighboring hamlet once a year or so. She was, along with the rest of her siblings, expected to help with the running of the family farm from a young age, and did not have the opportunity to attend school or learn to read and write. She spent her childhood and teenage years on the green hillsides of pre-Calamity Coerthas, looking after her family’s flock, tending their gardens, and helping to shear the sheep and collect the wool that her family sent to Ishgard to be sold.
Additionally, as one of the eldest sisters, she had even more responsibility to look out for and help her parents raise her younger siblings. Her brothers and sisters were Ignatia’s best friends growing up. They spent much of their free time outside, playing in the woods and creek behind their home. Ignatia was and still is very close to her twin sister, Poppea. Although their relationship was complicated at times, Poppea was her best friend, and they were almost inseparable while Ignatia still lived with her family. The Calamity and Leaving Coerthas
Ignatia and her family remained in Owl's Nest until the Calamity displaced them. Just days before Dalamud fell, Ignatia had a dream that depicted the events that would soon come to pass, with the message that she must flee to safety. Although she was not particularly faithful, the vision was so striking that she believed it could only be a sign from Halone. (Years later, Ignatia realizes that this dream was actually brought upon by the Echo.)* After much deliberation with her family, the Vodyanoys, along with some of the other townspeople, elected to leave Owl's Nest and travel to Ishgard, where they hoped to weather the impending disaster. After several days of hard travel, they were just malms away from the city when Dalamud fell and the weather in Coerthas turned freezing cold. They were able to seek refuge inside Ishgard before they closed the gates.
Ignatia stayed with her family in Ishgard for some time while they recovered from the shock of the Calamity, and decided what to do next. They lived on the streets of the Brume with other refugees from all over Coerthas. The conditions were harsh, and they suffered - Ignatia's elderly grandmother perished to the cold shortly after they arrived in Ishgard. As supplies dwindled and prices rocketed in the city, the Vodyanoys struggled to find work to support themselves. Despite having little to no training, Ignatia chose to enlist as a medic for the temple knights, a job that was dangerous but in high demand. She learned rudimentary chirurgeony as she went, tending to wounded knights and responding to Dravanian horde attacks outside of the city.
Along with Fedor and Poppea, Ignatia made the journey back to Owl’s Nest and discovered that their home, along with several other villages in the area, was completely buried by avalanches. It was almost certain that those who stayed behind in Owl’s Nest were killed in the disaster, including Ignatia’s close friend Nora and Poppea’s fiancée Thomas. It was during this trip that she first met her friends Druen and Elleva, knights from Camp Dragonhead that graciously offered to accompany them into the wilderness to protect them against horde attacks.
Upon learning that they truly had nowhere to return to, the Vodyanoys eventually secured passage to the Black Shroud (with the help of Druen and Elleva, who came from a wealthy merchant family) after several moons of living in the Brume. They found a place to live and jobs as laborers and craftspeople in the city. Ignatia continuing working as a chirurgeon in one of Gridania's hospitals and as a field medic in the parts of the Shroud where the fighting with the Ixali was heavy and frequent. From this she grew disillusioned with Gridania and the city states for the way they handled the beast tribe conflicts, having witnessed so much seemingly needless violence. She didn’t like working as a field medic, but continued accepting assignments because it paid well, and she was trying to help her family get back on their feet. Eventually she decided to join the conjurers' guild and found she had an affinity for practicing healing magic. Ignatia also took an interest in botany and worked as a gatherer for the Botanists’ Guild, which was useful for making medicine and utilized her experience from growing up in a remote area in which most people grew their own food. This also opened opportunities for her in both Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa. She decided to join the Culinarian’s Guild after traveling there often to bring shipments of rare produce. Her connections through the Botantist’s Guild also led her to joining the Miner’s Guild and staying in Ul’dah for a short time.
Eventually, after four years of living in Gridania, the Vodyanoys had saved enough to purchase a house with some land near Red Rooster Stead in La Noscea, hoping to return to their previous occupation as sheep farmers. Ignatia moved with them, initially intending to give up her work in Gridania and return to a more simplistic life. She wanted some peace and normalcy, and felt she owed it to her family to stick with them after the years of hardship they had endured since the Calamity. But she soon grew to miss being a conjurer in the Shroud, and decided to move back. Despite settling into a new kind of life, Ignatia still visits her family’s new home in La Noscea often.*In my non-MSQ version of her backstory for RP purposes, this dream was still sent by Halone.

Hi there! I'm B (she/they), the person who's ratatouille-piloting Ignatia underneath the wizard hat. I don't RP much, so I didn't make this for that purpose neccessarily, I just really love Ignatia and wanted a place to dump all the lore I've come up with for her. So thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed reading. Good luck out there, fellow adventurer.... I'll see you around!
